Robbie Mitchell Takes 3rd in 1st and 2nd round of Worcs Racing Series

Here is Robbie Mitchell's WORCS Round 1 Race Report

Round 1 of WORCS was held in Taft, California for the second year in a row. The weather was very different from every other year that we have gone. It is usually sunny and hot, but this time it was heavy fog and cold. The WORCS crew did a great job prepping the track and hardly had to water it all weekend! Fog was holding the moisture in the track for the best riding experience I have ever had in Taft.
Practice went great! I had one minor problem is all. I forgot to Loctite one bolt. It fell out, I stopped and put a new one on, went back out and finished practice. Aside from that, I was smooth and fast both in unclassified and pro practice. The track layout was awesome this year! A good layout makes for a great time riding!
While driving to the track Sunday morning, the fog was extremely thick! We could barely see the lines on the road. I wondered if they would have to cancel the races because we thought we saw one of the pro motorcycle riders' rig leaving the track over an hour before they were scheduled to race. I asked when we got there and they said they were running about 15 minutes behind, but they were racing!
We got the pit all set up and ready for whatever the race could throw at us before the pro riders meeting. We learned in the meeting that they had added a couple miles to the track to increase our lap times by a couple of minutes. We also had hot pits with a log at the pit entrance and a big step-up for the exit!
When the gate dropped for the main, I left the concrete pretty well. It wasn't until my DWT tires reached the dirt that I really hooked up though. Once I did the Lindsay Machine Racing engine and HMF exhaust did their job to keep me near the front of the pack. I wasn't lined up far enough inside to get the holeshot, but I came out of the first turn in 3rd. I did my best to stick with the leaders, but they were riding great and I just didn't have anything for them at the time. I just focused on distancing myself from 4th place and riding solid laps. It paid off in the end as I finished in 3rd and gapped 4th place by almost 3 minutes by the end of the race! I've always liked Taft, but I have had a lot of bad luck there over the years. This year showed me that I'm not cursed at Taft! I am really excited to start the season off on the box again, and I can't wait to see what the future brings!
I have to thank my sponsors: My parents, BreAnn (fiancĂ©), my family friends and fans, Lindsay Machine Racing, DWT, Tire Blocks, Fasst Co., Fly Racing, Zbroz Racing, Exit Shocks, ARS FX Suspension Components, HMF Racing, Spider Graphix, Precision Nutrition Plus, Maxima Racing Oils, Campbell Racing Fabrication, Fourwerx Carbon, Scott Goggles, Powermadd, Sunstar, Precision Racing Products, IMS Products, Leatt Protectives, Hot Rods, Hot Cams, Pivot Works, Cylinder Works, RK Chains, EVS Sports, GoPro, REKD LIFE CLOTHING and more that I can't think of right now.
Thanks to all of you that make it possible for me to live my dream! It means more to me than you will ever know!
Now its time to get ready for another podium!
